Tim Smith B.A. & Dip. Ed.


Tim Smith HeadshotTim has been collaborating with Tony Bones Entertainment since 2000. As Artistic Director for Vocal Alchemy, Tim has recently completed two Australian and one European workshop/masterclass tours. Tim was recently seen as the Musical Director during the recent Australian tour of MAMMA MIA! He was Assistant MD for Billy Elliot in Australia, spent 18 months as Assistant Conductor/Vocal Coach on The Lion King in Australia and China and was the Founding Head of Music Theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts. Recent work as a vocal coach has been for the Australian professional productions of A Chorus Line, Grey Gardens and pre-production coaching for Legally Blonde.

Over the past 15 years he has been engaged as a lecturer/guest speaker at a number of Australian universities and performing arts institutions including the Australian National Theatre, the Arts Academy at Ballarat University and The Victorian College of the Arts where he was the Founding Head of Music Theatre, authoring the original syllabus for the Bachelor of Music Theatre degree. During the past two years he has taken workshops on the music theatre voice in England, Ireland, Scotland, France and around Australia as Artistic Director of Vocal Alchemy, an online singing lessons and live vocal workshops initiative. Originally trained as a classical pianist, singer, orchestral conductor and educator, his work covers a wide variety of areas and styles. An award-winning musical director, he has worked on more than 30 musicals and other musical events ranging from Caroline O’Connor’s Bombshells for MTC to Beauty and the Beast for Jacobsen’s to Barbra Streisand’s Timeless concert tour in Australia. He has performed with artists ranging from Michael Crawford to Petula Clark and during 2007 was invited to be a Master Teacher at the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing Music Theatre Forum. He has been a musical director and vocal coach/consultant for the Walt Disney Company throughout Australia and Asia for the past thirteen years. During 2010 he was involved in a collaborative orchestral art-music project with New York artist Kaye Mahoney.
