Tony Appleby B.Ed - "Tony Bones"

Working with Children's Check Number 00145186-01 / Public Liability Cover of $20million

Tony Appleby HeadshotAs a young child Tony was nicknamed "Tony Bones" by his father, due to his skinny nature at the time. Little did he know how popular that name would one day become in the children's theatre world.

Educated at the distinguished Melbourne High then Victorian College of the Arts & Rusden Campus of Deakin University, Tony has a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education in Drama & Dance and has been operating Tony Bones Entertainment since 1998. He has taught in a range of environments including special education, private performing arts schools and many primary & secondary schools.

His teaching experience ranges from work in both primary and secondary special education with physically disabled students, mentally disabled students, TAC victims, and specialist work with both Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder students. Tony also headed up several programmes in main stream high schools for early school leavers, school refusals and troubled teens, attempting to open up viable lifestyle and career options for these particular students. Added to this are ten years experience teaching Drama, Dance and English for students from Grade 5 to Year 12 in Victorian mainstream schools.

Tony has had many directing, choreographic, dancing, MC, singing and acting roles in professional cabaret and both adult and children's theatre, and strives to continually challenge himself through his work in theatre. Performing credits include the lead roles of Jerry in the hit musical The Full Monty (Victorian Music Theatre Guild Nominee - Best Male Actor in a Leading Role 2005), Bobby in Stephen Sondheim's Company, Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice, Alan Breck Stewart in Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped, Oscar in Sweet Charity, as well as the roles of Ulysses in Jon English's musical Paris in it's world premiere season at the National Theatre, Action in Westside Story (Victorian Music Theatre Guild Nominee - Best Supporting Actor 2003), Bobby in A Chorus Line (Victorian Music Theatre Guild Nominee - Best Supporting Actor 1998), Simon Zealotes in Jesus Christ Superstar, Lank Hawkins in Crazy For You, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and lead roles in over 40 children's shows. In 2004 Tony also sang a lead role on the concept recording of "Kill All The Rockstars" with Frank Holden and Blair McDonough and featured in the short film of the project.

Tony absolutely loves his work in the company and all of the challenges and rewards it constantly presents.
