2012 Christmas Show (with view to extend tour to throughout 2013)

Melbourne based cast

3-4 wk Full-time music theatre touring school shows

1 Melbourne based female performer, strong singer & character actor for 2 original Aus. Musicals. Females, aged 18 to 40 from Victoria, Australia

“Anything that stirs your emotions will be remembered. The Tony Bones performance "Two Peas in a Pod" will be remembered.” St Columba Anglican School, Port Macquarie, NSW for our 2011 Picture Book show.

Tony Bones Entertainment "Children's Theatre by Qualified Teachers" are holding auditions for our 14th annual tour of two CBCA Shortlisted "Book of the Year" Book Week shows to be toured through primary and lower secondary school halls & public libraries in VIC, TAS, SA, ACT & NSW in Term 3, 2012.

The 2 new Book Week shows are our biggest tours of the year. One is a 4 song, 40 minute stage adaption of 1 of the 6 short listed “Picture Book of the Year” books (to be announced mid to late April) with lots of different elements (song, dance, puppetry, sets, props, costume changes) which is performed for Kinder to Grade 6 students at their schools. The other show is a 2 song, more theatre based adaption of 1 of the 6 shortlisted “Younger Reader’s Book of the Year” (to be announced mid to late April) for Grade 3 to Year 8 students. Both shows have the same cast of 2 performers, one male ("Tony Bones" Appleby) & one female, and both shows are followed by question time with Tony. The shortlist of books is released early April & we will develop the shows directly after they are announced.

“Tony Bones” Appleby is writing, directing & choreographing the shows, with music by Tony, Tim Smith (MD of pro tours of "Mamma Mia", "Lion King" & "Billy Elliot" & director of online singing training program "Vocal Alchemy") & Luke Hunter (current MD of international pro tour of "Jersey Boys" & past MD of pro tour of "Rocky Horror" & director of vocal warm up APP "Warm Me Up").

Pay structure will be in line with the federal award with performers being on a weekly wage when contracted ($760-796/week rehearsals, $831-$872/week tour, plus meals, incidentals, etc when required).

The shows take approx. 45-60 minutes to bump in & bump out including loading & unloading & setting up of portable staging, sound equipment (incl. headset microphones), basic lighting, curtain, costumes & props.

There can be up to 3 shows per day (e.g. 9.30am, 11am & 2pm) and up to a maximum of 15 shows per week.

The shows are transported in the company van (auto) that both performers must share driving.

Performances vary in length from 40 minutes (Picture Book) to 50 minutes (Younger Reader’s Novel) plus Q&A.

Accommodation, food & incidentals are paid when the performers are required to stay away from home overnight for the shows or rehearsals.

The successful performer would be playing several roles in the original Australian productions for primary to lower secondary students. They must:

- be a strong character actor & singer who has a strong grasp on comedy & can speak in various accents & different sounding voices;
- have enough physical strength to quickly load & unload / setup & pack up portable stages, sound equipment, etc;
- have the mental strength & toughness to tour shows for a long period of time and still maintain a positive attitude whilst working;
- have a driver's licence;
- have a Working With Children’s Check.

The touring schedule is throughout several states so there is some time spent away from home, including some weekends (depending on bookings). There is a very good chance that the season will be extended one week either side of these dates.
